Stuff About Me
Who I am? What do I do? Why do I blog?
I am a mother, wife, daughter, sister, and friend. I seek to have meaningful and healthy relationships with the people I love. I also believe strongly in chosen families, so my close friends are “family” to me as much as, and in some cases more than, my genetic relatives.
I have a wonderful husband, Chris. We are partners and best friends. Together we are raising our two children, Mehalje and Alaska. My kids call me mom, and a few others have names for me that I shalt repeat here, but most people know me as Susan.
One of the most popular questions asked when people meet for the first time has to be, “So, what do you do?” My short answer is that I’m a homeschooling mom of two. That’s what I focus lots of my energy on. But it’s not my only interest and there are other things I “do” although I don’t earn money with any of it. I plan to write more about our particular approach to homeschooling, but for now you can check out the posts within this blog to get a general idea.
It is important to Chris and I that the children grow up with a parent in the home - it doesn’t matter if it’s mom or dad, just as long as it’s someone. Under current circumstances it’s easiest for Chris to work and for me to stay at home. This could change in the future, but for now I’m glad to have the experience of being a stay-at-home mom, it rocks!
Philosophically, I’m a freethinker. Politically, I lean to the left. Spiritually, I’m a Unitarian Universalist. I bet some of you who read this are scratching your head trying to figure out what that is. I certainly was when I first heard about UUism!
This blog, Imperfect Genius, serves several functions. It’s a creative outlet. Blogging serves as the perfect avenue for me as I love to tackle different subjects. Despite my tendency to post long-winded entries, I don’t have the stamina nor desire to write a novel. Blogging allows me to create fresh content whenever I want.
Blogging allows me to share pictures and thoughts with family and friends. It also keeps me connected to things that interest me. I really enjoy being part of the blogosphere and I love participating within my favorite blogging communities - homeschoolers, women writers, and photobloggers. Homeschool Journal has provided a great space for me to express my interest in all three of these niches and to interact with other bloggers.
