The Delights of Autumn

Enjoying the sunny days and crisp, breezy evenings

Watching Chris turn a pumpkin into a work of art

Seeing humorous and original Halloween costumes

Staring in wonder at the deep black of the clear night sky

Observing Samhain and paying honor to my ancestors

Listening to the sound of the wind blowing through dried leaves

Celebrating the Halloween festivities with the kids

Looking up to see Orion stretching out above me each evening

Hearing the wonderful things my kids come up that they are thankful for

Noticing all the creative, colorful harvest decorations

Going for hay rides and corn maze adventures

Sitting peacefully in the woods, listening to the gentle stillness of nature

Experiencing the generosity and spirited fun of the local UU auction

Watching trees turn from green into a rainbow of vibrant colors

  • This is a beautiful month, isn’t it? :-)

  • I grew up in a sub-tropical climate for about 7 years as a child. For many years I thought that I hated the changing of the seasons because of the cold weather that was on it’s way. About a week ago the heat in our house kicked on and I realized, as I was standing in the hallway, that I was looking forward to the cold weather. We naturaly slow down during the winter months. Autum is the most beautiful time of the year. (I have thought this even when living in Hawaii. I missed the changing of the leaves.) I look forward to sitting in front of the wood stoves gitting the fires going in the early mornings. I rarly get the cance to read the newspaper unless I am starting the fire. The newspaper being the “firstarter” I pick through what I burn immediatly and save what I want to read for burning later. I make myself get up earler to “restart the fires” (we have two woodstoves, the main sorce of heat for our home in the winter months) but in reality I think I look forward to the time alone reading beside the warmth of the fire.
