Imperfect Genius

While our fabulous hostess Andrea works to correct the spell check issue for Internet Explorer users, I wanted to offer a work-around solution that Homeschool Journal users (or all bloggers for that matter) might find useful.

If you’re as bad a speller as me then you’ve probably been really in need of a spell check program! The following programs can be easily downloaded and installed in your browser in less than five minutes.

For IE users, there are a few programs you can check out, such as ieSpell or the JSpell Toolbar.

Firefox users have options, too! If you’re using Version 1.5 or higher then you can install SpellBound using these instructions. For other builds and versions of Firefox, find out how to use the original SpellBound by reading this Wiki.

I am using SpellBound and I really love it! All you have to do is right click to check your spelling. As you type it will also underline misspelled words, similar to the way that Microsoft Word does. It works on any text box - even when you’re leaving comments on other blogs. Very helpful indeed!

If you’d rather not download anything, you can still check your spelling by using one the many free spell checkers on the web, such as the one offered by The Solutions Cafe or the one located at SpellCheck.

There are other programs available but I concentrated on the FREE stuff, which often works as well, if not better than, the things you have to pay for. I hope that you guys find these tools useful while the spell-check kinks for Homeschool Journal get worked out behind the scenes.
